Today I thought I would share with you the inspiration behind some of the Italian card kits
that I've have created this year.

The first is the TUSCAN range and if you've ever watched the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun", you'll understand why.

As many of you know, since I married a gorgeous Australian man with Italian parents, we made
a point of visiting his parents' country and hometown a few times and not only did their gorgeous Florentine papers excite me, but the scenery gave me inspiration for the collections.

The Tuscan card kit reflects the gorgeous gold of the fields while the green represents the tall Italian Cypress trees that often line the long winding driveways and roads on properties.

Then we move onto the AMALFI coast inspired range.  The Amalfi coast on the west coast of Italy
has waters  that reflect the most stunning shades of teal and turqoise.

The water itself is crystal clear but the colours have such depth as the water deepens.

And of course as the sun hits it, the shades of colour become even more stunning.

Not only does Italy have some amazing coastline to explore, but the tiny towns all have their own unique styles and traditions.

Pienza, like many other Italian towns abounds with red geraniums and poppies and the reds and flora inspired this kit.

Many of the farms in Italy like this one are actually part of the Agriturismo and as such offer a range of accommodation and or  cooking / dining experiences.  Well worth checking out.

Hope you like them and if not, at least enjoy the photos of some
gorgeous parts of our fabulous planet.

Have a great day,

We have a great range of  DYLUSIONS PAINTS
in store and thought you might like to know more about them.

These paints were especially developed for Dyan Reaveley since no other paints worked quite the way she wanted them to.  Many other paints will definitely work in your mixed media journals but these ones have a few advantages - especially if you like to work quickly.

* firstly, they come in a jar with a wide opening so you can get your palette knife in to scoop out exactly what you need / want.

 * the large opening means that you have a lid that is big enough to use as the paint directly out of it.  Ie. you can use the small amount of paint that sits on the lid to dip your brush, blending tool sponge or even small objects for printing off.

* the paint comes in a fabulous range of colours which can all be blended to make shades or pastels but better still, they all have matching sprays and pen colours so you can create with a fully complementary set of mediums.

* the paint is a perfect consistency for using through your stencils and have a great opacity that can be altered with water.

* now for the main reason they have been so well received by mixed media artists.......they dry super quickly so you can work on multiple pages in jour journal / diary at once and know that when you flip to a new page, the last one will be dry in no time.

If you would like to listen to Dyan talk about the motivation behind this range, click here.

Here is a link to Carolyn Dube who has done a video testing out the paints.

If you've made something with the Dylusions paints be sure to bring them in store to show us sometime.  We would love to see them!

See you soon!

All about the Go Press and Foil machine......

so last year, Couture Creations released a foiling machine that doesn't need toner and can work with your existing die cutting machine.  It has a heating platform that you layer your hot foil stamp or dies, your foil colour and your card stock in and simply let it heat up and then run it through your die cutting / embossing machine.  You can also letterpress and letterpress with ink and it also allows you to foil chipboard, die cuts, ribbon, organza bags, cello bags, felt, vinyl and practically anything you can get through your die cutting machine.  So many opportunities!

To see some videos of how it works, check out these links:

This year they have added a collection of cut, emboss and foil dies which foil and cut all at the same time.  These dies can also be used with your standard die cutting machine and will give a great embossed die cut so even if you don't have a Go Press and Foil machine, you  can still enjoy these dies.  All you need is a metal conversion plate which is about twice the thickness of a standard metal shim and will allow you to create perfectly foiled die cuts and negative effects as well as use your emboss folders through your foiling machine.

Check out the video below where they were released at Creativation in Phoenix earlier this year and  what you can do with the left over bits.

All these dies are now in stock at A Place to Create but stocks are strictly limited as Couture Creations may not rerun this collection.  Further collections from Couture Creations will include some Hot Foil Stamps and Cut and Emboss Foiling Dies so keep an eye out on new collections as they release also.

We will be popping more in house videos up as soon as Sharon has her voice back so stay tuned and make sure you like and follow A Place to Create on facebook to see them as soon as they are up.

Well, the colour party retreat is over but I'm sure the memories will live on!

What an absolute ball we had.  Here are a few pics from across the weekend.

If you haven't been to one of our retreats, you really should try to check one out.

We had loads of new people this time and many who didn't know anyone before they arrived (including the staff) and we have welcomed them all into our retreat family.

Our next retreat is in August and is already pretty full.  If you think you'd like to join the fun and have some time to focus on yourself and your creativity, give the store a call on 3851 2200 and talk to Gayle about available spaces.

What is a Paper Craft Trail?

A Paper Craft Trail is a unique initiative by 3 north side paper craft store owners to share their businesses and hobbies with you twice a year.

The stores work together with their suppliers, teachers and staff to provide free demonstrations, make and takes and samples to inspire and educate others.

It is your chance to see how products work, meet the teachers, have a look around and have a go at some of the free make and takes.

Who can go to a Paper Craft Trail?

Anyone can come, it is completely free (until of course you find something you must have) and it is always more fun with friends.  You can make a day of it and visit all 3 stores or choose to visit just 1 or 2, it's completely up to you.   Sometimes you might find yourself engulfed in inspiration and delight at just one store for hours, that's okay too.

What goes on behind the doors of a scrapbook store?

This is a chance to find's kind of like an open house where all the fun that goes on behind closed doors and in class rooms comes into the middle of the shop and happens where you can see it and touch it.

There are also some great prizes offered by the stores throughout the day and at the conclusion of the event so as they say "you have to be in it to win it"!

Hopefully we will see you there.
